Wexford’s 37-acre Inland Harbour & Lock System
In its original development in 1980, Wexford was designed so that the lock-controlled harbour would be the centerpiece of the plantation. Wexford developer, Marathon Oil, chose Williard Byrd to design the layout of the plantation. It was Byrd, inspired by a National Geographic article about the inland canals of Ireland, who decided the harbour and lock system would act as the focal point of the community, surrounded by a championship golf course, ensuring each home would have a spectacular view.
To this day, there are 138 boat slips located behind privately owned homes and another 142 located behind the Clubhouse. With our direct access to the Broad Creek and Intracoastal Waterway, and constant water depth, Wexford Plantation is the ideal community for any boater.
In addition to secure lock access, the Wexford Harbour Center provides complimentary pump out services. The Harbour Staff also provides private boat tours on Wexford’s very own pontoon boat, Wexford Two. And for those who are interested in seeing the harbour from a different angle, kayaks are available for use.
The harbour and its amenities play a significant role in the Wexford boating community. In addition to the active Wexford Yacht Club, the Wexford Harbour Staff hosts a number of activities throughout the year including: monthly Dock Parties, Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony, Fishing Tournaments (both child and adult), Summer Sandbar Parties, Annual Boat Commissioning Celebration and our upcoming Holiday Boat Parade!
