For those of us who live here in Hilton Head, we sometimes forget how lucky we are to live in such a highly sought-out destination. (Did you know Hilton Head has been recognized by Fodor’s Travel, TripAdvisor, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Fox News and more!)
As the largest barrier island off the Atlantic coast between Long Island and the Bahamas, Hilton Head is located just 40 miles north of Savannah, GA, and 90 miles south of Charleston, SC – making it an ideal location for exciting day trips (by car OR boat)! The Island lies on the Intracoastal Waterway and encompasses 42 square miles of semitropical, Lowcountry geography, including unspoiled sea marshes, creeks and lagoons, heavily wooded forests of tall pines, palmettos, magnolias and live oaks, and 12 miles of broad Atlantic beach.
Warmed year-round by the Gulf Stream, the Island’s average daytime temperature is a mild 70°F (21°C). This weather is ideal for year-round outdoor activities including boating/water sports, fishing, golfing, playing tennis, biking and much more! The Lowcountry area has over 50 miles of biking and walking trails, 300 tennis courts and 8 marinas. In addition, there are 20+ golf courses on the Island, with 40 in the Lowcountry area.
The Island also boasts a flourishing cultural community of fine art, music and theatrical venues, as well as shopping and dining venues. Island offerings include performances at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. The Island also has more than 250 restaurants, representing a variety of tastes and more than 200 shops ranging from elegant boutiques to department stores.
In all – not only do we have the beach, boating activities, numerous golf courses and tennis courts, we also have an abundance of dining, social and cultural events – all within our backyard!
