Wexford Garden

In honor of Earth Day, we’re taking a moment to recognize and celebrate our Wexford Garden!

Many members don’t realize it – but this is the 11th year Chef Frank and his Culinary Team have planted the Wexford Garden, located outside of the Clubhouse (near the pool).  Chef is currently growing herbs, as well as six varieties of tomatoes (!!), which they’ll begin to use in the kitchen in late May/early June. Hint: You’ll find them in our featured salad specials! 😉

According to Chef, “The garden and fresh produce is an inspiration to cooking in every way!”

Wexford Welcomes the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra

HHSOThis past weekend Wexford hosted a very special Tuscan Symphony Dinner Under the Stars- featuring live music from a violinist, pianist and conductor from the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra!  Perfect weather and a picturesque harbour backdrop set the stage for what was a most memorable evening.

Executive Chef Frank Copeland and his culinary team enhanced the experience by showcasing a classic Italian menu that included passed hors d’ oeuvres, followed by a seated family-style dinner with Artisanal Pasta, Chicken Scaloppini and Grilled Heritage Pork Marsala with accoutrements, and topped off with shared plates of Biscotti, Chocolate Panna Cotta and Arborio Rice Pudding with Orange and Mint.

According to one Wexford member, “Without a doubt, last evening was one of the best events we have attended in our almost 15 years as Wexford residents. Jennifer and her staff did an outstanding job. The food prepared by Frank and his staff was incredible. Having the pianist, violinist and the conductor from the symphony made it a magical evening. We are looking for an encore of this event. We truly felt we had been transported to an elegant terrace in Tuscany. It was an evening that you did not want to see come to an end.  Bravo!”

It was truly a buona notte!

Summertime Fun

Summer is in FULL swing here at Wexford & the Club is bustling with activity!

It’s been a busy month here at Wexford, in all areas of the club – from our Yacht Club to Tennis to Golf to Croquet to Wexford Wellness to Summer Camps to the Clubhouse!
See for yourself – check out our June Club Times and read recap below. 😉

Harbour/Yacht ClubCircumnavigation2In addition to our weekly Coffee Talk Tuesdays (now referred to as Morning Mariner) and monthly Commodore Dock Party, the Yacht Club hosted two special events this month. The first was Circumnavigation, in which over sixty members circled Hilton Head Island by boat.  During their “voyage,” the crews stopped and rafted up at Dolphin Head for some lunchtime fun in the sun.
The second trip is actually going on NOW – about 20 members took five boats and traveled up to Beaufort for the day to enjoy lunch at Q’ on the Bay.

TenniswimbBesides our regularly offered daily clinics ranging from Ladies Doubles to Cardio Tennis to Power Hour (and more!) and our complimentary monthly clinic (this month was Mixed Doubles Strategy), Wexford hosted the 5th Annual Wexford/Long Cove Open.  The three-day USTA sanctioned junior tennis tournament had over 90 competitors.  – It was a great showing of junior tennis!!
And wait, there’s more!  We hosted our annual Wimbledon at Wexford Round Robin just this week. Despite the heat, we had a great turnout – not to mention showdown! And what’s better than starting your morning with a breakfast for champions – strawberries & cream and scones!

Golf – Despite the two week golf course aerification, the Golf staff managed to host two rules clinics and the ever-popular Nine & Dine. Plus, our weekly Men’s Day (Tuesdays and Saturdays), Ladies Day (Thursdays) and Ladies Fore & Pour (Tuesdays) picked back up the second half of the month.

CroquetcroqOur monthly golf croquet social, Wine & Wickets, continues to grow! This month, we also hosted the Coastal Croquet Clubs annual “Croquet the Wexford Way.”  This event had 30 participants, with players coming in from Palmetto Bluff, Sun City and Dataw Island.

Wexford Wellness – Wexford Wellness is really kicking into high gear! In addition to our daily walking group (Monday through Friday mornings), weekly Yoga (Tuesdays) and Water Aerobics (Tuesdays and Thursdays), we hosted two special events this month. The first event was Zumba – who doesn’t like to dance?!  Our members loved it so much, we’ve decided to make it a weekly offering in the fall (when it cools down outside).  The second event was our Guest Speaker Luncheon. Not only did Chef Frank prepare an amazingly delicious (AND healthy!) meal, but the presentation by Lindsay Martin, RD was great!

Summer Camps – So far, we’ve hosted three summer camps – Camp Ace (Tennis), Camp Arnie (Golf) and Camp Recreation (All Sports). All the feedback has been great!!
We’ve got six more camps left this summer – it’s not too late to sign up!!
camp 1 camp 2

Clubhouse – And then there’s the Clubhouse – the hub of most social activity around Wexford!  Besides our regular W Grill menu, we introduced a Pool Lunch Menu.  Our Wednesday OneEleven continues to be a favorite for our families. Our Traditional Happy Hour (every Thursday) is a night not to miss, as it’s a great way to meet new neighbors and friends.  Special events this month included our Father’s Day Brunch, Pub Night with Pop and Spaghetti & Meatballs!

And now we’re off to prepare for our historically BIGGEST event of the year –
our 4th of July celebrations!

Wexford OneEleven – The Newest Wednesday Evening HOT SPOT

WOE

One of the Clubhouse’s New Year’s resolutions included a shakeup of Wednesday evenings…And that’s exactly what we did!  Earlier this year we introduced a more casual menu exclusively offered on Wednesdays.  The menu features a variety of choices including: Grilled or Buffalo-Style Cobb Salads*, Wexford’s soon-to-be famous Smoked Salmon Salad, our classic Caesar Salad with your choice of toppings such as Grilled Chicken, Grilled or Fried Shrimp, Grilled Beef and Chicken Tenders, Wexford’s Classic Burger*, Fried or Grilled Chicken Sandwich*, Chicken Wings and Tenders, Beer-Battered Fish*, Shrimp* and Oysters*, Raw Bar items such as Cocktail Shrimp, Oysters and Lobster Cocktail, plus a few special features! *Indicates items also available as a Wrap.
Click here to view tonight’s menu!

The name of the evening, Wexford OneEleven {WOE}, originated from the menu’s general price point {$11 for many offerings} and the Clubhouse’s address {111}.  Seatings are from 5:00 – 7:15 pm. Food orders are accepted through 7:30 pm.

WOE|Whoa! Tonight’s drink special: BOGO {Buy One, Get One} Free on glasses of wine from our Wine List!

This is a night not to be missed – just ask your neighbors!

Star Spangled Celebration

As our BIGGEST event of the year, the 4th of July is truly a special time here at Wexford Plantation! It’s a day full of celebrations and activities for everyone in the family.

Depending on personal interests, the day may begin with our 4th of July Adult Round Robin Tournament or Children’s Fishing Tournament at the harbour.

Then once the early afternoon rolls around, our festivities really kick in high gear with our annual pre-parade party, parade and poolside cookout.

Over the years, as our membership continues to grow, so does our pre-parade party! Our 4th pre party 1pre-parade party features water slides, bounce houses, games, music and more. It’s a great time for children of all ages and families to come out, meet new neighbors and/or hang out with old friends. (Last year we welcomed around 100 children under the age of 16!) Plus – this is a great time for children and adults to decorate their bicycles and golf carts in preparation for our parade.

Our 21st Annual 4th of July Parade down Bridgetown and Wexford Club Drive begins at 4:30 pm. This is the largest in history led by a Hilton Head Fire Engine and Rescue vehicle. This is a time not only enjoyed by all those participating in the parade, but also for all members standing outside their homes spectating and cheering on the parade!

4th parade 1  4th parade 2

Following the parade, the membership is invited poolside for an unforgettable summer 4th cookout 2cookout! We’ll have live entertainment provided by Whitley Deputy, along with a face-painter extraordinaire! The cookout will feature favorites such as BBQ pork, baby back ribs, burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken and more! Last year the Club served over 400 members and guests – and we expect no less this year! 😉
