My husband and I have always wanted to live on Hilton Head Island and in 2013 we picked up our 2 boys and moved to Wexford plantation. We chose Wexford for many reasons. Our main focus when looking for a plantation was a feeling of community. We wanted to have an opportunity to get to know our neighbors and enjoy all the outside activities with new friends.
As a family we have become involved with the tennis center. We are able to hit the ball around as a family and on USTA league teams. My youngest son has now decided that tennis is going to be his sport of choice! The staff at the tennis center is professional and friendly.
The Wexford clubhouse is an outstanding place to dine and meet friends. The food is delicious and we enjoy the special dining events orchestrated by the wonderful staff. The poolside events are very family friendly and we all enjoy eating great food, listening to music and looking out over the harbor.
We are enjoying all the aspects of Wexford and Hilton Head Island!
Nancy and I had been vacationing on Hilton Head for over 30 years. When we began to plan for retirement we knew that Hilton Head was where we wanted to be, probably in Sea Pines because that is where we usually stayed on vacation. We had been in many of the plantations over the years, but never Wexford.
We looked at a lot of houses in a number of plantations, and then drove into Wexford. The houses were beautiful, the landscaping impeccable, and the common areas maintained beyond anything else we had seen. Then I saw the harbour, which made Wexford unique to everywhere else we had looked. Being an avid boater, I was totally impressed by all it had to offer. The 37 acre harbour offers well maintained docks, a constant water level, a first class Harbour Center, and a lock system that provides excellent protection for my vessel. Homes that are located on the water have their own private docks. Those that aren’t have access to docks maintained by the Yacht Club. You have to see it to appreciate it.
Another unique amenity Wexford offers is that it is the only plantation with a private golf course that allows residents to own and use their own golf carts on the course as well as on the streets inside the plantation. I think I put more miles on my golf cart than it do on my car! All this, capped off by a soon-to-be renovated club house and a planned upgrading of the golf course (both now completed) was all we needed to know that this is where we wanted to live.
We moved to Wexford full-time in 2011. We quickly got involved in the community. Nancy and I both got on various committees and got involved in the very active social life Wexford has to offer. I became Vice-Commodore for the harbor and Nancy was named to the ETC travel group’s board. We made more friends in a matter of months than we could have ever imagined. It became so apparent how much we loved living here that Nancy’s brother bought a house in Wexford after visiting us a couple of times. For now it is his second home, but he plans to move here when he retires. We can’t think of anywhere else we would want to live. Hilton Head is great, Wexford is off the charts!!
