Sail Away

Last summer, we obtained a Sunfish sailboat and Harbourmaster Mark Dryden offered Junior Sailing Lessons. This year, back by popular demand, we obtained two Flying Scots, allowing us to expand this summer’s program.









This program was offered last month, just in time for our “Build It, Sail It” competition (August 6). This inaugural event requires some building supplies (cardboard box, duct tape), time and a little ingenuity! Members are challenged to put together a vessel that is human or wind powered to race the Harbour Center Staff’s (cardboard) boat. The course will be in the harbour.  Winner takes all bragging rights!  “The humblest craft that floats makes its appeal to a seaman by the faithfulness of her life.” -Joseph Conrad

USGA Senior Open Qualifier

Last Tuesday, June 6, 2017, Wexford hosted the USGA Senior Open Qualifier.

Bradley Rollinson and Allan Small qualified here at Wexford to play in the 37th US Senior Open Championship. Steve Larick is the first alternate and Mark Anderson is the second alternate.

62 players started the event playing for two spots and two alternates to participate in the 2017 US Senior Open Championship at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Massachusetts on June 29-July 2, 2017.

Wexford’s own David Jones and Scott Jardine were in the field. David made a great attempt at qualifying, shooting a great 72. Click here for the full results.


Easter Spring Carnival

We don’t take Easter celebrations lightly here at Wexford! We offer an entire weekend of festivities, from our Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Carnival (Saturday) to our Grand Easter Buffet (Sunday).

This year’s Easter Spring Carnival was complete with two bounce houses, an inflatable basketball shoot, an inflatable slide, face painters and popcorn, as well as our of course our Easter Egg Hunts and the Easter Bunny himself.  Our Easter Egg Hunts were divided into three age groups (5 & under, 5-10 and 10+), each with their own area and own eggs. And just like Willy Wonka, we had golden eggs, which had special prizes. With over 100 children, it was quite the celebration!

Just as popular as our Spring Carnival was our Easter Grand Brunch Buffet. We had record attendance since reopening the Clubhouse in 2010, with 349 members and their guests. The buffet itself was nothing short of amazing- ice sculptures, decorated turkey, carving stations and more!

Weathering the Storm

Last week (October 8, 2016), our Island forever changed with the devastation left by Hurricane Matthew. Despite the downed trees, debris and power/water outages, our community has come together with an outpour of love, compassion and strengthened sense of community.

Neighbors are meeting for the first time, assisting with cleanup efforts and helping those who are unable. We thank all our members, neighbors and friends for their support as we continue our cleanup efforts.

March Madness

Can you believe it’s already the end of the month?!  With the warm spring weather, new activities/events and holidays, the Club has been bustling with excitement – so it’s no surprise March came and went in the blink of an eye!  Today we’re recognizing #ThrowbackThursday, and taking a look at all Wexford had to offer in the month of March.

Holiday Celebrations // 
St. Patrick’s Day: St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated in style in the Hilton Head Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade!  Wexford teamed up with The First Tee of the Lowcountry to decorate a joint float. The day was filled with fun by adults and children alike!  Following the parade, Wexford hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Pub Night at the Clubhouse – with some traditional Irish favorites!
Easter Weekend: We kicked off the holiday weekend with a Good Friday Fish dinner. The next morning we had our annual Easter Spring Carnival – which included bounce houses, sand art, corn hole, jenga, hula hoops, face painting – and an egg-stra special visit from the Easter Bunny!  Following the Spring Carnival, we had family BBQ cookout.  Then Sunday morning, we had the grand finale of festivities (drum roll please…), Easter Brunch, serving more than 300 members and their family.

Other Clubhouse Events last Month //
Downton Abbey High Tea: Our ladies dressed to impress, as we said farewell to Downton Abbey. Our High Tea included traditional favorites such as tea sandwiches, strawberries and cream, cookies and Harney & Son’s Tea.
Guest Bartender Night: Two lucky members threw their hat in the running for a chance to join Kenrick behind the bar!  It was a spirited night for sure!!
Other dining events included Tuscan Symphony Under the Stars and Benvenuti Wexford Ristorante Italian Night.

Our special events didn’t stop at the Clubhouse!  We had a Cruising Seminar presentation at the Harbour Center, as well as our first Docktails of the year!  Golf hosted a number of events including the Carolina’s PGA RBC/Head Pro Championship, WWGA Spring Opener, Men’s Interclub, Ladies Team Matches, a variety of clinics and a JoFit Trunk Show.  The Tennis Center hosted their Mixed Doubles Championship and Croquet had national teaching professional, Bob Kroeger, onsite for instruction.

Wexford Welcomes the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra

HHSOThis past weekend Wexford hosted a very special Tuscan Symphony Dinner Under the Stars- featuring live music from a violinist, pianist and conductor from the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra!  Perfect weather and a picturesque harbour backdrop set the stage for what was a most memorable evening.

Executive Chef Frank Copeland and his culinary team enhanced the experience by showcasing a classic Italian menu that included passed hors d’ oeuvres, followed by a seated family-style dinner with Artisanal Pasta, Chicken Scaloppini and Grilled Heritage Pork Marsala with accoutrements, and topped off with shared plates of Biscotti, Chocolate Panna Cotta and Arborio Rice Pudding with Orange and Mint.

According to one Wexford member, “Without a doubt, last evening was one of the best events we have attended in our almost 15 years as Wexford residents. Jennifer and her staff did an outstanding job. The food prepared by Frank and his staff was incredible. Having the pianist,violinist and the conductor from the symphony made it a magical evening. We are looking for an encore of this event.We truly felt we had been transported to an elegant terrace in Tuscany. It was an evening that you did not want to see come to an end.  Bravo!”

It was truly a buona notte!
