Love of Tennis

Tennis aerialWhile most know Wexford for our inland harbour and Arnold Palmer Signature Course, many do not realize what an active Tennis Community we have!…Did you know that last year Wexford received one of only twelve USTA Outstanding Tennis Facility Awards?!

We are extremely active in all USTA events – Combo Mixed Doubles, Combo Men’s and Ladies’ Doubles, Junior Team Tennis, Flex Leagues and USTA sanctioned tournaments.  This weekend (June 12th-14th), we will host the 5th annual Wexford/Long Cove Open, which is a USTA sanctioned South Carolina Level 3 Junior Tournament.  Later this year (in September), we will host the Wexford/Sea Pines Country Club Doubles Championship.

In addition to our USTA activity, we also have a full club calendar of events.  Our weekly schedule includes 2.5 Ladies’ Doubles Clinic, 3.0 Ladies’ Doubles Clinic, 3.5 Ladies’ Doubles Clinic, Cardio Tennis, Power Hour and monthly clinics.  Each month we also host one to two member events; some examples of those events include the Annual Pro Am, Wimbledon at Wexford, Ladies Member Guest, themed round robins and tennis socials with other clubs.

Aside from all the events Wexford Tennis has to offer, its grown to be a favorite pastime activity for many families. One Wexford member states, As a family, we have become involved with the Tennis Center. We are able to hit the ball around as a family and on USTA league teams. My youngest son has now decided that tennis is going to be his sport of choice!”

Wexford Launches Wellness Program

When you live in Hilton Head, why go to a gym when you can work out in a natural setting with an amazing backdrop almost year-round – and did we mention with the support of your friends & neighbors?

In recent years, activities offered by the Club (besides golf and tennis of course!) have included weekly water aerobics and sunrise salutation yoga, along with the occasional kayaking excursion – BUT this year, we’re kicking it up a notch!  In addition to those regular offerings, we are introducing our NEW Wexford Wellness Group.

Wexford Wellness’ mission is to promote health through exercise, education and nutrition. Throughout the year we’ll explore different activities designed to promote health – from bike excursions to beach walks to healthy cooking demonstrations to guest speakers and more!  The goal of this group is to create a positive, supportive atmosphere, while offering a variety of activities and educational programs.

One of the key factors of success of this group is that it’s not only a Club-driven initiative, but also a Member-driven effort.  With a core group already interested and established, the possibilities are endless!

The inaugural meeting and luncheon will be held Friday, February 27th – contact Sarah Smith at (843) 686-8810 to learn more and sign up today.  We look forward to launching this wonderful new Wexford movement!

Wexford Members Making a Difference – Operation Morale Support

Every now and then, the accomplishments of our members are highlighted within the community.  Most recently, a dedicated group of volunteers, Marjie Gaynor, Arlene Fader and Cathie Forlenza, were featured in The Island Packet.

Packet 3What started out as a small group project to support our troops has grown to what is now known as “Operation Morale Support,” involving residents all over the area and even local stores.

The focus of the group is to provide care packages, including cards, basic toiletries, candies and snacks, for soldiers serving in Afghanistan and troops returning home to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

Star Spangled Celebration

As our BIGGEST event of the year, the 4th of July is truly a special time here at Wexford Plantation! It’s a day full of celebrations and activities for everyone in the family.

Depending on personal interests, the day may begin with our 4th of July Adult Round Robin Tournament or Children’s Fishing Tournament at the harbour.

Then once the early afternoon rolls around, our festivities really kick in high gear with our annual pre-parade party, parade and poolside cookout.

Over the years, as our membership continues to grow, so does our pre-parade party! Our 4th pre party 1pre-parade party features water slides, bounce houses, games, music and more. It’s a great time for children of all ages and families to come out, meet new neighbors and/or hang out with old friends. (Last year we welcomed around 100 children under the age of 16!) Plus – this is a great time for children and adults to decorate their bicycles and golf carts in preparation for our parade.

Our 21st Annual 4th of July Parade down Bridgetown and Wexford Club Drive begins at 4:30 pm. This is the largest in history led by a Hilton Head Fire Engine and Rescue vehicle. This is a time not only enjoyed by all those participating in the parade, but also for all members standing outside their homes spectating and cheering on the parade!

Following the parade, the membership is invited poolside for an unforgettable summer 4th cookout 2cookout! We’ll have live entertainment provided by Whitley Deputy, along with a face-painter extraordinaire! The cookout will feature favorites such as BBQ pork, baby back ribs, burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken and more! Last year the Club served over 400 members and guests – and we expect no less this year! 😉

Hilton Head Island: Living in Paradise

For those of us who live here in Hilton Head, we sometimes forget how lucky we are to live in such a highly sought-out destination. (Did you know Hilton Head has been recognized by Fodor’s Travel, TripAdvisor, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Fox News and more!)

As the largest barrier island off the Atlantic coast between Long Island and the Bahamas, Hilton Head is located just 40 miles north of Savannah, GA, and 90 miles south of Charleston, SC – making it an ideal location for exciting day trips (by car OR boat)!  The Island lies on the Intracoastal Waterway and encompasses 42 square miles of semitropical, Lowcountry geography, including unspoiled sea marshes, creeks and lagoons, heavily wooded forests of tall pines, palmettos, magnolias and live oaks, and 12 miles of broad Atlantic beach.

Warmed year-round by the Gulf Stream, the Island’s average daytime temperature is a mild 70°F (21°C). This weather is ideal for year-round outdoor activities including boating/water sports, fishing, golfing, playing tennis, biking and much more! The Lowcountry area has over 50 miles of biking and walking trails, 300 tennis courts and 8 marinas. In addition, there are 20+ golf courses on the Island, with 40 in the Lowcountry area.

The Island also boasts a flourishing cultural community of fine art, music and theatrical venues, as well as shopping and dining venues. Island offerings include performances at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. The Island also has more than 250 restaurants, representing a variety of tastes and more than 200 shops ranging from elegant boutiques to department stores.

In all – not only do we have the beach, boating activities, numerous golf courses and tennis courts, we also have an abundance of dining, social and cultural events – all within our backyard!
