Hollywood Comes to Wexford

4Every year, the Wexford Plantation Charitable Foundation hosts a themed charity gala and auction- this year’s theme was Hollywood, complete with bright lights and a celebrity guest.

On Friday, November 4, the Foundation rolled out the red carpet for 140 Wexford members, along with special guest Tom Berenger and his wife, for an unforgettable evening. Tom Berenger, well-known for his roles in Major League, Inception, Last Will, The Big Chill, Betrayed and The Dogs War (just to name a few!) took photos and mingled with the members throughout the night, as they all enjoyed dinner, a live and silent auction, live music by Deaz Guyz and dancing.

Much thanks to their generous sponsors, donations and the Wexford members, the preliminary net proceeds from that evening were just over $68,000.

If you are interested in making a contribution to the Foundation, or if you would like to recommend a charity for consideration, please contact Jim Hicks, Chairman of the Wexford Plantation Charitable Foundation, at chairman@wexfordfoundation.com.

New Boat Christening

aLast week we celebrated the Christening of New Boats, conducted by a representative of King Neptune himself aka our esteemed Wexford Yacht Club Commodore, Bill Haverland.

We recognized Blue Moon V, Sea to Tee, Good Vibrations, Dancing Queen, Miss Rutie and Sea Cruise, and “asked the sailors of old and the mood of God that is the sea to accept the names of these seven vessels, to help them through their passages, and allow them to return, safely with their crews.”  Following the announcements made by the Commodore, the seven families broke a bottle of champagne over the bow to appease King Neptune, and laid a branch of green leaves on the deck to ensure safe returns.

Immediately after the ceremony, we continued the celebrations with our monthly Docktails Party!
